Sustainability Case Studies

Within this section, you will be introduced to some great leaders and their stories -- leading by example -- transforming ideas into reality and showing the way.

Actions speak louder than words, and their actions are literally changing the face of Oregon. Not only are they leaders, they are risk-takers - bold prophets of the new century. They have seen the signs telling us that we must make some significant changes in the way we live individually and collectively if we want to sustain life and our quality of life.

Monty Montgomery and the Izaak Walton League

Monty Montgomery is the chairman of the Oregon Division of the Izaak Walton League’s Public Lands Restoration Task Force. Monty’s work with federal agencies and their permittees can be credited as a major factor in improvement of an estimated 5 million acres of rangeland. In Oregon, he has aided in changing the federal land management policy from an emphasis on commodity production, to range restoration.
